Too darling

Poppy
have you ever woken in the middle of the night with an idea and just had to get up and work on it until it is done?
Blaise and I were discussing creativity and it's role in shaping the people in our extended family, many of us are talented in the areas of science, maths and english - all three together as well as art, craft and drama. We talked about that drive to put everything else aside when inspiration hits - either an idea, or a realisation - a story plot, a hat pattern, an experiment - and balancing that with the needs of husband and children, and how that drive to create has caused many of the dramas and partings in our little world. I think she was asking me how she would maintain her creative freedom while raising a family - luckily she has a lot of women in her life who can show her how to do that, in a week we will listen as one of her lecturers for next year explains how she cares for a young family and still manages to write novels and teach, and she has the experience of me rising at 4 am to get work done.

Luckily this wee hat didn't get me up at 4 am, though I was thinking about it all day, and had the foresight to put a casserole in the crockpot before going to work - because I knew that as soon as I came home from work I would be knitting to get this damn idea out of my head and into reality, it took several attempts but finally I knew I was on the right track - and here it is, the main part knitted straight, using short row shaping and the brim knitted straight in rib, then closed with a bow - gorgeous little partner to Meg lite.

I've just spent five minutes going cross eyed trying to unvent the pattern for this; it's gorgeous! Reminds me of a flapper hat, very 1920's!

You clever old stick!

I do love this hat!

just catching up on KR blogs - love the little cadi and hat in DK - but wondering was it really named after the wild Roaring Meg river, or perhaps the deluxe Roaring Meg Pinot Noir by Mt Difficulty!!
