Free Friday - favourite yarn?

this weeks winner is number 3...that's cguard! I'll gift the pattern to you via Ravelry.

Thanks for the great tips everybody, it's amazing how much knowledge you can pick up from other knitters.

This weeks pattern is Henry it is one of my favourites as it it SO quick to knit, and the neckline makes me feel clever. Henry is suitable for boys and girls.

Housekeeping:
- please include your Ravelry name or your email address (can space it out to avoid spambots)
- I will gift the pattern via Ravelry, if you do not belong to Rav I will email the .pdf to you
- winner (s) are drawn sometime on Friday, this means "Friday afternoon/evening New Zealand time"
- the winner (s) are chosen by random number generator (I use this one)
- you may enter even if you have won before

ok, this weeks question...
"if you could only knit with one yarn for the rest of your life, which yarn would you choose?"

I don't mind if the answer is specific e.g. Malabrigo Rios (my current yarn amore) or "worsted wool" just give me an answer and tell me a little bit about why you choose that yarn.

Perhaps being the first to comment makes it more unlikely I'd be picked, but never mind :)

The yarn I currently use most is our local acrylic in 3 and 4 ply. It is just the right thickness, cheap and plentiful, it can be "killed" to stay lacy forever, and comes in as many colours as you could wish for.

Definitely Naturally Harmony. Love love LOVE how soft it is. I suspect it pills easily but it's too soft for me to care.

I thought and thought about this question. SOme of the beautiful yarn from two separate vendors in Victoria would easily fit here, but both have closed shop.

I finally decided on Ailsa's beautiful 50/50 wool from Knitabulous. Again, this particular yarn has been discontinued but I have lots, thanks to some over the top purchases last year. 50% merino and 50% silk, it's beautiful to knit and always looks good. Add in Ailsa's amazing colours and what more could anyone want?

Fingering or sock yarns are my go to these days ... mostly because I seem to have become addicted to lace knitting. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of your amazing patterns.

There's a small business on Prince Edward Island, Canada, called "Belfast Mini-mills". They specialize in building mini mills for other yarn producers, but they also spin a wide variety of yarns on the premises. If I had to knit only one yarn for the rest of my life (but please don't limit me!), it would be their Belfast Mini-mills Specialty Sock Yarn. 80% superwash and 20% nylon - soft and strong in one.

My favorite yarn to knit with is a yarn with a wool/cotton mix. I knit mostly for babies and I love that this mix gives you the best of both! (ravelry id knitnspin)

If I could only knit with one yarn for the rest of my life it and money was not an object it would be local, green, organic, washable, soft, and not scratchy or splitty. I am looking forward to finding this on my knitting journey.

My favourite go-to would be Wendy Merino Bliss DK. It's on the budget end of the scale but is lovely and soft and as it's so reasonably priced I don't have to stress too much if the cats get hair on it while I'm knitting! Wish it came in just a few more brighter colours though.

my absolute favourite yarn would have to be Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, it was the first 'fancy' yarn I got my hands on when rediscovering knitting in 2004, living in the Marlborough Sounds with only regional towns nearby with LYS still selling scratchy 8ply perendale - I thought I was in heaven!! DH didn't like the price much (or the added postage from Aussie) but it turned my knitting life around!

I think I'd choose rambouillet wool. It is hard wearing and, of course, warm and a pleasure to knit with!

My favourite yarn would have to be Hannah's gorgeous Red Riding Hood Superwash, she comes up with the most amazing semisolid 8plys and 10plys mainly. My rav name is Tinylovely. I have been eyeing up you dolls vest for quite some time ;)
